Goodbye Howard, Hello Future…

Ah, hooray for fresh ideas and new leadership! Hooray for working families and going out back doors! The revolution is finally here! It’s great to be alive!

Ok, well, maybe I am exaggerating just a little, but I have to say I am genuinely thrilled to say bye-bye Johnny and helloooo Kevin Rudd. It’s also great to see that I’m not the only one who feels this way, with huge swings towards Labor all over the country (For more specific info on this, check out http://www.abc.net.au/elections/federal/2007/). Ahh…victory is sweet. Especially when it involves little Johnny not only losing his title as PM, but losing his precious Bennelong as well! To a woman! Who is a first time candidate! Bwah ha ha ha ha!

I have to admit, I cannot muster up even the slightest morsel of pity for Johnny’s minions, sorry, supporters. Especially when a charming ‘friend’ of mine who is that way inclined felt it necessary to send me a barrage of texts yesterday claiming that she was so outraged by Labor’s success that she has been roused to action and will be joining the Young Libs as soon as possible. At least Little Johnny had the courtesy to congratulate Kevie, surely it can’t be too hard for his army of followers to lose graciously as well? I suppose when you believe climate change is a farce, that minority groups are annoying and that everyone should have the ability to step up and challenge their employers, losing with style and grace isn’t really going to be your thing.

Now that the race is over, there are still many intriguing questions to be answered. Who will become the new face of evil, sorry, the Liberals? Will Peter Garrett unleash the passion we’ve all been waiting for? What will be done about Work Choices? And will we still have adequate opportunities to make a mockery of George Newhouse? Answers to these and many other questions will soon unfold in the manner of a mid-afternoon soap opera: you know it’s all rather tragic and somewhat repetitive, yet it’s difficult to tear your eyes away in case you miss out on what happens next.
