I applaud Gould for his attack on Gallop. I reckon Gallop has been made the patsy for Rupert Murdooch.
Has anyone noticed that this scenario of virtually destroying the Storm could well suit News Ltd’s owner Rupert Murdoch. Surely it is in Murdoch’s interests to see Rugby League crash and for the only rugby game on television to be Rugby Union.
Foxtel, the day after the Storm crash signed a 5 year deal with Rugby Union. They are due to sign a deal with League.
If League was to fold, Murdoch would at least halve the costs of putting Rugby to air. He could harness the advertising dollar aimed at Rugby followers and would only have the cost of supporting Rugby Union rather than Union and League.
Melbourne is the obvious place to start. Does anyone seriously believe that the Melbourne market will support both the Union Rebels and the League Storm without huge inputs from Murdochs companies?
Look at whose calling all the shots in Melbourne. Murdoch’s lackey John Hartigan.
In Murdoch’s World, Union is the international game. League, because of it’s small base is expendable.
Much stranger things have happened in the world of big business.
