Kevin Rudd’s First Political Mistake: Supporting Michael Costa’s Woeful NSW Electricity Privatisation Plan

Folks put this day down in your diary for it has very historic implications. For today February 11th 2008 is the day Kevin 07, otherwise known as Kevin Rudd of the Australian Labor Party fame, made his very First Public Political Mistake and Blunder.
Kevin Rudd, has had a dream run up till now. He has traipsed all over the country and beyond acted almost statesman like in his approach to big picture global issues, and national issues. From ratifying Kyoto, to apologising to the Stolen Generation. However today he made a very public political mistake. That of supporting an inequitable, unpopular, and possibly corrupt sale of a profitable public economic monopoly. Read about Kevin Rudd’s first political mistake here.
In the state of New South Wales (NSW) the Premier Morris Iemma, and his Publicly inept and very unpopular Treasury minister, are bowing to unknown corporate interests, and attempting to sell off the taxpayer owned electricity system.
What Kevin Rudd does not realise is that the vast majority of people that voted him in including my family did so because we felt a sense of public disconnect with John Howard and his crew over at Liberal Party HQ And although for a while there, John Howard, had everyone conned until he rolled out work choices, which was a creature of Big Business and Faceless Corporations. Work Choices coupled together with high interest rates gave Kevin Rudd his political victory.
Here we are in 2008, and Kevin Rudd quickly forgetting what got him into office is doing something very very unpopular, and something which is not in the interests of working families but again like John Howard, in the interests of faceless corporations and big business.
Kevin Rudd or the people that advise him are way too stupid realise that 2008 is a totally different place in time, compared to 2007 and indeed the years prior. People are now empowered, they realise that, they can throw anyone out of political office, any time they want, and indeed for any reason they want. Just ask old Johnny Howard, the economy was coming along nicely, or so he thought, and then alas…the poor bugger was unceremoniously tossed out of office.
There is a wind of change around the world, Barack Obama is riding it in America, and indeed Kevin Rudd successfully rode it into office, However this wind of change is unlike no other, and indeed it cannot be tamed for two of its vital ingredients are Public Cynicism and advances in the pervasiveness of personal communications technology tools.
Dodgypress will better further articulate this concept in the second instalment of this article this Friday.
