Mal Brough Implodes: How Entirely Predictable

Mr Brough, who was indigenous affairs minister in the Howard government but lost his seat at the last election, became a high-profile casualty of the merger of the Queensland Nationals and Liberals.

When elected state president in May, Mr Brough - who by that stage had expressed conflicting views on a merger - vowed to renegotiate several aspects of an agreement reached by his predecessor, Gary Spence, and Nationals state president Bruce McIver.

But with the details of the agreement remaining unchanged, he focused on who would be president of the new organisation, an issue that threatened to bring the merger undone.

Mr Brough first demanded the job for himself, then for the Liberal Party, but Mr McIver maintained the members of both parties should have the right to elect the LNP head.

Mr Brough, backed by federal president Alan Stockdale, called a state council meeting on Thursday night to defer the Liberals’ constitutional convention over the dispute, but the decision was overturned by a Supreme Court judge the next day.

Mr Brough refused to accept Mr Spence as a compromise candidate, and after the merger was approved, members elected Mr McIver as president and Mr Spence as his deputy.

I Lifted the above from one of Uncle Rupert’s papers, so for the full article go here   I knew that this used car salesman of a politician, was going to get Spanked eventually. And lo and behold it happened a few days ago. Even in the backwoods of QLD politics, where the libs/nats are the perennial losers, year after year, his public humiliation got national headlines.
