Scary GM CROPS: the Next Battle Ground in Australia

Just watched the 7:30 report’s investigation into the decision by both the New South Wales and Victorian state labor government’s, allowing GM Crops, to be grown there. I wonder how much the Billionaire Bio-tech Companies, contributed to both governments election coffers, to get this dodgy GM Crop Policy reversal passed.

Not so long ago, all around the country, GM Crops seemed unpalatable, so much so that globally the EEU, and China, have banned them, Yet here in Australia, vested interests seem at play.

It seems from the thrust of tonight’s investigative report that, the commonwealth bureaucrat that was responsible for rubber stamping the Pulp Mill in Tasmania, was also responsible for this decision. Further more I was flabbergasted to learn that the scientist responsible, has an economic interest in a bio tech company….bloody hell, what the hell is going on here, and where is the rest of the mainstream corporate media on this story….MIA…

When are we the public and the ultimate end consumer, going to get a say, about this massive policy changes, whose impacts will not be felt for years to come. Am somewhat cynical about the timing of this decision, coming just days after the Federal Election, and a transition from the old guard to the new.

Shouldn’t such momentous, strategic economic environmental decisions be assessed on their national impacts on us as a nation, and as such undertaken by the Commonwealth Environmental Minister, rather then at a state level????
